The month of May brought a lot of activities to the Club. The Numero uno of the University of Uyo visited us in May. We gave a sizable amount of money to one of our workers as a send-off, and the Club organized a cooking competition to select an operator for its restaurant.
The edition also features the election of our members to the Governing Council of the University and a whole lot more information about our Club. Subscribe if you haven’t already to stay updated about the happenings in the Club.

☑️ New Operator for the Club’s Restaurant
The Club advertised for an experienced chef to operate the Club’s restaurant. Twelve candidates applied for the vacant position. We conducted interviews to streamline and shortlist the candidates.
We selected four shortlisted candidates and engaged them in a cooking competition to choose the best. The cooking competition took place at the Home Economics Education Laboratory. Each candidate cooked a general meal, "Edikaikong” soup, which the Club provided, and a signature meal at their own cost.
All four candidates were expert chefs, but we judged Mrs UduakAbasi Umana to be the best. She has accepted the offer, paid for a year’s rent, and will soon commence operations.

☑️ Renovation of the Club’s Restaurant
The Club’s Management renovated the Club restaurant. The restaurant was given a facelift as it was painted with tiles installed on the kitchen table. An air conditioner will be installed in the dining area so members can eat their food in a serene environment.

☑️ Send forth Ceremony for Mrs Joy Thompson
The Club organized a send-forth ceremony for Mrs. Joy, one of the sales assistants employed at the bar. Mrs Joy had served the Club with merit since 2016.
After getting married and becoming pregnant, it became difficult for her to function as she used to, this made her resign as her due date approached. The Club didn’t want her to leave empty-handed, so members donated a purse for her.
The Vice-Chancellor presented her with the purse, which amounted to about four hundred thousand naira (#400,000.00). She received an initial amount of three hundred thousand naira, with the balance to be given after she gives birth.

It was a sad one in April, as we lost a very committed member, Engr Chuks, to the cold hands of death after a brief illness. Engr. Chucks was a lecturer in the Department of Food and Agriculture Engineering.
He was a jolly good fellow and a committed member of the tennis section of the Club. A novelty tennis match was played in his honour and a token was donated by members of the section which was presented to his wife.
Engr. Chuks has since been buried in his home town in Abia State. May his soul rest in peace, Amen.
